Founder & creator of MK Creations 406

Hi! I’m Marissa, the baker and home-cook behind MK Creations 406, a cozy corner of the internet dedicated to sourdough, homemade food, and simple recipes that bring comfort back to the kitchen.

I started this blog because I fell in love with the magic of homemade food, especially sourdough. What started as a love for cooking and baking has grown into a place where I can share the recipes my family actually makes, the things I’m learning along the way, and a little bit of our everyday life in Montana.

How I Got Here

It all started with a sourdough starter.

A friend of mine had one, and her food always looked absolutely amazing. Naturally, I decided I needed to know what all the fuss was about, so I made my own sourdough starter and went straight down the rabbit hole.

One loaf turned into another recipe, which turned into making more and more things from scratch. Before I knew it, I was looking at the ingredients in the foods we were buying and thinking, I wonder if I can make that myself?

So I started experimenting with homemade versions of the things we loved, focusing on wholesome ingredients, fewer preservatives, and food made with a little more intention.

Then came the garden.

If I was going to make more of our food from scratch, why not try growing some of the ingredients myself? My gardening journey has been a mix of excitement, learning, and the occasional well, that definitely didn’t grow the way I planned moment. But I love being able to grow something, bring it into the kitchen, and turn it into something our family can enjoy.

Eventually, I started sharing pieces of the journey online. The recipes, the sourdough, the garden, the homemade goodies, and all the little lessons I’ve picked up along the way.

And then MK Creations grew into something I never really planned for: a roadside farmstand where I could share some of that homemade goodness with my own community.

What started with a friend and a jar of sourdough starter has turned into a journey of making, growing, baking, learning, and sharing.

I’m still figuring it all out, one loaf, garden harvest, and homemade recipe at a time. And I’m so glad you’re here for the journey.

Made From Scratch, Whenever Possible

I’m a big believer that homemade doesn’t have to mean complicated. Some days that means spending an afternoon baking sourdough bread, and other days it means finding a simple recipe that gets dinner on the table without making the kitchen look like a tornado came through.

Around here you’ll find recipes made with everyday ingredients, practical instructions, and plenty of room for real life.

Life Behind the Recipes

MK Creations is also a little glimpse into our everyday life. Between baking days, farmstand prep, family adventures, and the general chaos that comes with raising a family, most of these recipes come from a very real kitchen.

Some recipes are carefully planned. Others happen because I had ingredients that needed to be used. Either way, they’re meant to be enjoyed and shared.

Why You Can Trust My Recipes

The recipes you find here come from a very real kitchen. I make these recipes myself, for my family, and share the ones that are worth making again and again.

I focus on simple, wholesome ingredients and practical recipes that fit into everyday life. Along the way, I share the tips, tricks, and little lessons I’ve learned from actually making them, because sometimes the smallest detail can make all the difference.

My goal isn’t to create complicated recipes just for the sake of it. I want you to be able to step into your own kitchen, follow the recipe, and feel confident making something delicious from scratch.

These are recipes made to be cooked, baked, shared, and enjoyed. 🤎
