Homemade Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk (or milk of choice)
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar (more to taste)
  • ¼ cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips (optional but amazing for richness)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional toppings: whipped cream, marshmallows, chocolate shavings, crushed peppermint

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, heat the milk over medium heat until warm but not boiling.
  2. Add cocoa powder and sugar, whisking until smooth and fully dissolved.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips and continue whisking until melted and the hot chocolate is silky and thick
  4. Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and a tiny pinch of salt to bring out the chocolate flavor
  5. Pour into mugs and top with whipped cream, marshmallows, or anything festive

Make It Extra Special

  1. Mint version: Add 1–2 drops peppermint extract.
  2. Spicy version: Add a pinch of cinnamon or cayenne.
  3. Extra rich: Use half milk, half heavy cream
